This series of videos is a reflection of what I have learned about lightweight backpacking gear as a result of my Appalachian Trail thruhike. I have a Packa and it rocks. Mine is blaze orange so I look crazy but it gets the job done.

Thanks pattersonbrl! you are correct. Glad you enjoyed the videos. The venture jacket is hy-vent, not gore-tex. I might have mis-spoken there. In terms of weight it can’t be beat. And when I did purchase it, I was deciding between it and the other two you mentioned (Marmot Precip and REI ultralight). Thanks for your input. Happy trails.

I would still recommend the jacket for ultra-lightweight. Some other comparable jackets are the REI ultalight and the Marmot Precip. Again, I think your video’s are great and I’ve learned a lot from them.

Hey there,
I enjoyed the videos and they were really informative with lots of good tips. I don’t believe the venture is a gore-tex shell. It uses their proprietary waterproof coating called hy-vent which is waterproof/breathable but is a coating rather than a membrane. It is very light weight and not a bad jacket. A gore tex or eVent jacket is going to cost a bit more and most will weigh a little more than the ultralights like the venture.
