Essential Camping Clothing

March 13th, 2010

To be as comfortable as possible during your camping adventure you need the right clothing. A great camping strategy is to dress in layers, which allows you to remove articles of clothing if you’re too warm, and layer more on if you’re too cold. The incorrect amount of layers will find you either too hot and sweating or too cold and shivering.

You will be fighting the wind for the most part. If so, be sure that you take along a wind breaker jacket. Any good camping store will have a varied amount of windbreakers on offer, you should get a good strong waterproof one with plenty of pockets to store any number of things in. You will want to take the time to try on a few jackets so that you can find one that is comfortable, easy to move in, and also seals off drafts to keep you nice and warm. Care should also be taken when purchasing hiking boots as you want boots that are water-proof as well as comfortable, and you will also want to pair the boots with sock liners and wool socks. You might want to look into some Asolo Fugitive. If your feet should get wet, it can put a real damper on your camping adventure.

Use sock liners to ensure your feet remain dry.

An extra pair of socks should be packed, along with hat and headband to protect your face and head. Most of your body heat is lost through your head and hands, so be sure to take along a hat and headscarf to protect you from the sun, wind and any inclement weather. Gloves are a must have, try to find some that have a waterproof lining. Sleeping bags are not clothing, but taking the time to find the right sleeping bag is important to keep you warm at night. Durable footwear is important on rough terrain, you may want to check out the Merrell hikng boots.

You may have an old sleeping bag lying around somewhere, chances are this will not be sufficient. A new sleeping bag should be purchased that has adjustable straps so you can seal yourself in tightly. Look for a bag with a liner, as this will give added protection from the cold and wind. Here are a few suggestions to put to use when you’re ready to climb into your sleeping bag: Remember that you lose heat through your head, and wear a hat to bed. Change into fresh socks before crawling into your sleeping bag. You do not want to wear smelly and possibly wet socks to bed… or maybe you do but that’s your prerogative! Wrap the sleeping bag completely around yourself. Check for gaps where cold and moisture might seep into your sleeping bag, and close them up. A great night’s sleep will be yours if you follow these tips. So now you know what clothing essentials you’ll need for your outdoor trip. Of course things will differ depending upon where exactly you are going and weather conditions you can expect in different seasons. Your camping needs will be slightly different depending on if you are going to a local campground or heading off to uncharted territory. No matter where you are going one thing remains the same, you should always be prepared!
